Concussion Rehabilitation and Management In Scarborough
Concussion rehabilitation at our Scarborough clinic varies from person to person, as there are many factors that can affect recovery. Every person’s experience after a concussion is different!
In general, full rest (mental and physical) is recommended for the first 1-2 days after an injury. After that, your symptoms are monitored as you progressively increase physical and mental demands. Your concussion management assessment will involve gathering your personal history; assessing the visual, vestibular, and balance systems; and other associated signs and symptoms.
Usually, concussion management includes education, relative rest, recommendations for any modifications to daily life, physiotherapy for neck pain and other associated conditions, visual/vestibular/balance rehabilitation exercises, and progressive physical and mental exertion in preparation for return to work or sport.
Some of the more common symptoms to experience after a concussion are:
- Headaches
- Neck pain
- Nausea
- Light or sound sensitivities
- Changes in mood
- Feeling emotional
- Low mood
- Easily frustrated
- Difficulty concentrating or remembering
- Sleep disturbances
- Blurry or double vision
- Balance issues
